Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology recently held a graduation ceremony and it announced 118 candidates who were awarded PHD’s. The ceremony was held on June 20th , where degrees and diplomas was awarded to 3545 graduants.
Questions emerged regarding the huge number of Doctorate degrees awarded. Some Kenyan scholars questioned the quality of the doctorate degrees. JKUAT took to defensive and claimed that the institution has put in place stringent quality measures and adhered to the Commission Of University Education.
The Commission for University Education is now investigating the 118 Doctorates JKUAT awarded to the graduates. The commission chairman Chacha Nyaigoti said earlier that they will investigate if standard procedures were adhered to in teaching, research and exam process to determine if the degrees are justifiable.
CUE Audit has revealed that there was a large number of irregularities in the PHDs awarded. The Commission for University Education has given the university three months to review the degrees.
